Brayden Schenn scored with just under two minutes remaining in regulation to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday night.

Schenn’s go-ahead goal at 18:27 of the third period capped a back-and-forth contest that saw St. Louis hold off a late Vegas push. Oskar Sundqvist, Justin Faulk and Alexey Toropchenko also scored for the Blues, while Joe Hofer made 22 saves.

Vegas continued to struggle, dropping to 1-5-2 in its last eight games. Pavel Dorofeyev, Mark Stone, and Keegan Kolesar scored for the Golden Knights, and Carter Hart stopped 15 shots. Vegas has now surrendered at least four goals in five of its past eight games.

The Golden Knights were without defenseman Brayden McNabb, who missed the game with an upper-body injury suffered on Wednesday against Nashville. His absence ended a streak of 298 consecutive games played, the 10th-longest active run in the NHL.

St. Louis seized momentum in the second period, scoring twice in 58 seconds. Faulk struck at 5:39, followed quickly by Sundqvist at 6:37 to give the Blues a 3-1 edge.

Vegas clawed back in the third. Stone pulled the Knights within one, and Dorofeyev tied the game at 3-3 at 8:29, setting the stage for Schenn’s late winner.

Both teams traded goals in the opening period. Kolesar opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 10:12, but Toropchenko answered just 27 seconds later off a rebound.

The Blues were awarded a penalty shot early in the second when Jordan Kyrou was slashed on a breakaway, but Hart denied Kyrou with a glove save.

Vegas welcomed back Jack Eichel, who returned after missing seven games with a lower-body injury. He is now two assists shy of 400 for his career.
