Jack Eichel netted two goals to power the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, overcoming an early deficit and a goaltending setback.
Kaedan Korczak scored, while Tomas Hertl sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final seconds.
Starting goalie Adin Hill made eight saves on ten shots before leaving after the first period with a lower-body injury. Backup Akira Schmid stepped in and was perfect in relief, stopping all 19 shots he faced.
Eichel, who now has four goals and five assists through four games, was the driving force behind Vegas’s comeback. After cutting Calgary’s 2-0 lead in half midway through the second period by jamming in his own rebound, he delivered the game-winner at 6:38 of the third — bursting past Flames defenseman Daniil Miromanov and flicking the puck past goaltender Dustin Wolf.
Korczak had tied the contest earlier in the third with a clean shot to Wolf’s stick side.
Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman provided Calgary’s offense in the first period. Backlund scored at 7:32 after a slick give-and-go with defenseman Mackenzie Weegar, while Coleman made it 2-0 with a glove-side snipe five minutes later.
Wolf finished with 26 saves, but Calgary’s late-game struggles continued — the Flames have now been outscored 9-2 in third periods to start the season.
