Jared McCann delivered dramatically, scoring with just 3.8 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Seattle Kraken a 2–1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.
With the clock winding down, Matty Beniers, who had opened the scoring earlier in the game, fired a shot from the left circle that bounced off goaltender Adin Hill. McCann pounced on the rebound at the top of the crease, burying it for his second goal of the season and marking his 400th career NHL point.
Goaltender Joey Daccord was stellar for Seattle, stopping 26 shots, including four in overtime, and bringing his total to 61 saves over his first two games. The win gave the Kraken their first 2–0–0 start in franchise history.
Pavel Dorofeyev continued his red-hot start for Vegas, netting his league-leading fifth goal of the season on a power play in the third period to tie the game 1–1. Adin Hill finished with 20 saves for the Golden Knights.
All three of Vegas’ games this season have gone past regulation. The Golden Knights opened with a 6–5 shootout loss to Los Angeles, followed by a 4–3 overtime win over San Jose before falling to Seattle in another extra-time thriller.
Beniers’ power-play goal at 7:58 of the second period, assisted by Jordan Eberle, gave the Kraken a 1–0 lead, which Dorofeyev erased midway through the third. Dorofeyev’s tally, set up by captain Mark Stone, was his fourth power-play goal of the season, the most in the league.
The victory was Seattle’s fifth in 15 all-time meetings with the Golden Knights.
