Mark Stone delivered twice, scoring the tying goal in regulation and then ending the game 2:47 into overtime to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 3–2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
Stone’s overtime winner came after a costly Flyers mistake. Travis Konecny misfired on an outlet attempt near his own net, allowing Jack Eichel to pounce on the puck and set up Stone charging into the slot for the decisive finish.
Zach Whitecloud opened the scoring for Vegas, while Trevor Zegras and defenseman Noah Juulsen found the net for Philadelphia.
The Golden Knights struck first midway through the opening period when Ivan Barbashev fed Whitecloud, who beat both Konecny on the backcheck and goaltender Dan Vladar for his first goal of the season.
Philadelphia answered late in the first as Zegras buried a quick feed from Travis Sanheim, tying the game at 1-1.
Vegas regained the lead during a second-period power play when Vladar failed to corral a harmless-looking shot. The loose puck landed in the crease, where Stone outmuscled defenders to make it 2-1.
The Flyers responded again later in the period. Juulsen, rarely an offensive contributor, jumped into the rush and converted Christian Dvorak’s pass to knot the game at 2-2. It was Juulsen’s first goal of the season and just the fourth of his NHL career.
Philadelphia struggled to generate offense early in the third, going more than eight minutes without a shot before Sean Couturier broke in alone, only to be denied by Vegas goalie Akira Schmid.
In overtime, the Flyers’ turnover proved decisive, as Stone finished off the gift to seal the Golden Knights’ victory.
Former Flyers netminder Carter Hart dressed as Schmid’s backup in his first game back in Philadelphia in nearly two years.
