Steven Stamkos scored twice and added an assist as the Nashville Predators defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 on Saturday night. Nashville built an early lead and relied on strong goaltending to secure its third straight win.

The Predators capitalized on limited chances, while Vegas controlled much of the play but struggled to convert. Nashville improved its recent form with four wins in six games, while the Golden Knights dropped their third in a row and sixth in eight outings.

Despite being outshot by a wide margin, Nashville executed efficiently in key moments. Vegas generated sustained pressure throughout the game but could not overcome early defensive lapses and missed opportunities.

Fast Start Sets The Pace

Nashville opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game. Ryan O’Reilly won a faceoff in the offensive zone and fed Stamkos in the slot. Stamkos finished quickly to give the Predators an immediate lead.

That early goal shifted momentum and forced Vegas to chase the game. The Golden Knights responded with strong puck control and a high volume of shots, but Nashville’s defense and goaltending held firm.

Stamkos extended the lead early in the second period with a power-play goal. He finished a setup from Filip Forsberg and Erik Haula at 1:24, pushing the score to 2-0.

The goal marked Stamkos’ 33rd of the season and moved him into seventh place on the NHL’s all-time list for power-play goals. He now has 238 career goals with the man advantage.

Predators Capitalize On Key Chances

Nashville continued to take advantage of its opportunities. Tyson Jost made it 3-0 midway through the second period with a short-handed goal. The play highlighted Nashville’s ability to create offense even while defending.

Vegas briefly cut into the deficit when Shea Theodore scored on a power play at 13:10 of the second period. The goal gave the Golden Knights some momentum, but it did not last.

Ryan O’Reilly responded quickly for Nashville. He redirected a shot from Stamkos on a power play at 14:53, restoring the three-goal lead at 4-1.

That sequence effectively settled the game. Nashville maintained its structure and limited Vegas’ scoring chances in the final minutes of the period and throughout the third.

Vegas Controls Play But Falls Short

Vegas controlled possession for much of the night and finished with a 40-20 advantage in shots. The Golden Knights generated consistent pressure, particularly in the first period, where they outshot Nashville 20-4.

However, they struggled to convert those chances. Nashville goaltender Justus Annunen made 39 saves and remained steady under heavy pressure.

Vegas also held a shot advantage in the third period but could not find a way past Annunen. The Predators’ defensive positioning limited second-chance opportunities and forced Vegas to settle for lower-quality shots.

Akira Schmid made 16 saves for the Golden Knights but faced fewer chances as Nashville relied on efficient scoring rather than sustained offensive pressure.

Key Performances And Impact

Stamkos led Nashville with two goals and one assist, continuing a strong season. His performance set the tone early and helped the Predators build a lead they never relinquished.

O’Reilly contributed a goal and an assist, while also playing a key role in the opening faceoff that led to the first goal. Jost added a short-handed goal that extended Nashville’s advantage at a critical moment.

Annunen’s performance in net proved decisive. He handled a high volume of shots and maintained composure throughout the game.

For Vegas, Theodore provided the lone goal. The Golden Knights created opportunities but lacked the finishing touch and struggled to break through Nashville’s defensive structure.

Momentum And Standings Outlook

The win gives Nashville momentum as it continues to push for a playoff position. The team has shown improved consistency in recent games and remains competitive in a tight Western Conference race.

Vegas faces a more uncertain stretch. The Golden Knights have lost three straight and need to address both scoring efficiency and defensive consistency as the season progresses.

Despite controlling play, Vegas could not translate possession into results. That gap between chances and goals has become a concern during its recent slide.
