Vasily Podkolzin, Leon Draisaitl, and Kasperi Kapanen all scored in the third period as the Edmonton Oilers rallied to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 on Sunday night, tightening the race in the Pacific Division.

With the loss, Vegas remained at 72 points and missed an opportunity to reclaim the division lead from Anaheim, which still sits atop the standings with 73 points despite its 4-0 loss to St. Louis. Edmonton, currently in third place, improved to 70 points.

Trent Frederic also scored for the Oilers, while goaltender Connor Ingram turned aside 24 shots. Connor McDavid recorded two assists and Evan Bouchard added one, extending both players’ point streaks to seven games.

For Vegas, Noah Hanifin and Jack Eichel found the net, Mitch Marner contributed two assists, and Adin Hill made 15 saves.

Golden Knights forward Brett Howden returned to the lineup after missing two months with a lower-body injury.

The teams exchanged goals during the second period, though Vegas had a potential tally from Keegan Kolesar overturned after an Edmonton challenge.

Edmonton took control early in the third when Podkolzin scored unassisted on a breakaway just 2:34 into the period following a faceoff. Draisaitl extended the lead with 8:07 remaining after Eichel was unable to clear the puck from the defensive zone due to teammate Rasmus Andersson’s broken stick.

Eichel later pulled Vegas within one by scoring a short-handed goal from the right circle with 3:16 left in the game. However, Kapanen sealed the victory for Edmonton with an empty-net goal with 1:57 remaining.
