Jake Evans scored nearly four minutes into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.

Cole Caufield reached the 30-goal mark for the season, Phillip Danault also found the net, and Montreal snapped a two-game losing streak. Defenseman Mike Matheson added an assist on Caufield’s goal, extending his point streak to a season-high five games.

Jakub Dobes was sharp in goal, stopping 32 shots in his first career appearance against Vegas. The 24-year-old netminder has now gone 6-0-1 in his past seven outings, with his last regulation loss coming back on Dec. 9 against Tampa Bay.

Pavel Dorofeyev accounted for both Vegas goals, but the Golden Knights dropped their third straight game against Montreal, including losses dating back to last season. Akira Schmid finished with 23 saves and fell to 0-2 against the Canadiens this year.

Caufield, who recorded a hat trick in Montreal’s loss to Boston on Saturday, continued his hot stretch by scoring for the sixth consecutive game — the longest run of his career. He has totaled nine goals during that span.

Vegas defenseman Noah Hanifin appeared in his 800th NHL game, becoming the first player from the 2015 draft class to reach that milestone.
