The Ottawa Senators took full advantage of a tired Vegas Golden Knights squad, rolling to a 7-1 victory Sunday night behind multi-goal performances from Stephen Halliday and Dylan Cozens.
Halliday enjoyed a breakout night, scoring twice and adding an assist for his first three-point game in the NHL. Cozens also found the net twice as Ottawa overwhelmed Vegas from the opening puck drop.
Fabian Zetterlund, Jordan Spence, and Nick Jensen rounded out the scoring for the Senators, while captain Brady Tkachuk chipped in three assists. Goaltender Mads Sogaard turned aside 19 shots. Linus Ullmark, the 2022-23 Vezina Trophy winner, returned from personal leave and dressed as the backup.
Halliday’s two goals were the second and third of his NHL career, both coming during his rookie season.
Vegas avoided the shutout when Rasmus Andersson scored in the third period, his first goal in two games with the Golden Knights since being acquired in a trade with Calgary.
The Golden Knights were playing their third game in four nights and appeared to run out of energy late in the contest. Vegas opened its four-game road trip with a 4-3 loss in Boston on Thursday before rebounding with a 6-3 win in Toronto on Friday.
