Mark Stone scored twice and added an assist as the Vegas Golden Knights spoiled Mitch Marner’s return to Toronto with a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs on Friday night.
Jack Eichel, Pavel Dorofeyev, Braeden Bowman, and Keegan Kolesar also found the net for Vegas. Adin Hill made 18 saves, while Ivan Barbashev contributed three assists in a well-rounded offensive effort.
Marner, facing his former team after spending nine seasons with Toronto before departing last summer, was booed every time he touched the puck by the home crowd.
John Tavares, Scott Laughton, and Bobby McMann scored for the Maple Leafs. Anthony Stolarz stopped 25 shots in his first game back after recovering from an upper-body injury.
The Golden Knights were playing the second game of a back-to-back and earned their first win in three outings following a seven-game winning streak, which included a 6-5 overtime victory against Toronto last week.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs continued to struggle, dropping their third straight game and fifth in their last six.
Defenseman Rasmus Andersson made his Vegas debut after being acquired from Calgary earlier in the week.
