Shea Theodore posted a goal and an assist, and Akira Schmid earned a shutout against the team that drafted him as the Vegas Golden Knights rolled to a 3–0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Tomas Hertl and Ivan Barbashev also scored for Vegas, while Jack Eichel collected two assists. The Golden Knights have now won three straight, rebounding well from a four-game skid.

Schmid, who spent three seasons with the Devils before being traded in 2024, stopped 24 shots for his third career shutout — and his second of the season.

Devils’ Offense Goes Silent Again

Jacob Markstrom made 24 saves for New Jersey, which was shut out for the second consecutive game and finished a winless four-game homestand (0–4–0). The Devils also fell 3–0 to Dallas on Wednesday.

New Jersey’s attempt to generate a spark with shuffled lines backfired early, as Vegas carried play and outshot them 13–5 in the opening period.

Golden Knights Strike Late, Then Control Special Teams

Theodore opened the scoring with 13 seconds left in the first, snapping home a shot from the right circle off an Eichel feed.

The second period remained scoreless, with New Jersey pushing the pace but unable to solve Schmid.

Penalties finally arrived in the third — but they only hurt the Devils.

  • New Jersey managed just one shot on its first power play.

  • On a later advantage, they couldn’t register a shot at all.

  • Immediately after a Vegas penalty expired, Hertl redirected Mitch Marner’s one-timer to make it 2–0.

  • With Nico Hischier back in the box, Barbashev buried a rebound off an Eichel blast to seal the 3–0 win.
