Cutter Gauthier capitalized on a costly overtime turnover by Mitch Marner, scoring with 1:03 left in the extra period to give the Anaheim Ducks a 4–3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.
Marner mishandled a backhand pass behind his own net, sending the puck straight onto Gauthier’s stick in the slot. The Ducks’ rising star wasted no time, ripping home his 13th goal of the season to seal the victory.
Gauthier, Jackson LaCombe, and Troy Terry each posted a goal and an assist, while Olen Zellweger also scored. Lukas Dostal stopped 29 shots as Anaheim improved to 6–1 in games decided beyond regulation.
Vegas received goals from Braeden Bowman, Shea Theodore, and Tomas Hertl, with Jack Eichel recording two assists. Akira Schmid made 29 saves. Despite the loss, the Golden Knights extended their point streak to six games (3-0-3), but their overtime struggles continued — they’re now 1–6 in 3-on-3 play.
The Golden Knights stormed out to a 2–0 start thanks to quick strikes from Theodore and Bowman just 1:12 apart. Bowman, off to a strong start in his NHL career, now has goals in three straight games, totaling four goals and an assist in his first six appearances.
Anaheim answered swiftly. LaCombe blasted a one-timer through traffic, and 34 seconds later, Zellweger knotted the game at 2–2.
Hertl briefly restored Vegas’ lead late in the first period, redirecting Eichel’s long-range shot for a power-play tally.
Terry responded midway through the second, firing a wrist shot from the right circle after a smooth zone entry by Leo Carlsson, tying the game 3–3 and setting the stage for the overtime finish.
